Renewal and Extension Procedures for China Business Visas

Foreign nationals invited to China for business purposes need to prepare the following documents for their visa extension:

  1. Ensure your passport is valid and present other necessary international travel documents.
  2. Complete the VISA / STAY PERMIT / RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATION FORM with a recent, colour passport-size photo taken against a white background.
  3. Provide valid accommodation registration obtained from the local police station or your present residence's hotel.
  4. Include relevant certificates of the host organisation demonstrating its legal status in Beijing, such as enterprise business licence or Registration Certificates of Permanent Representative Institutions of Foreign (Regional) Enterprises. Note: For subsequent applications under the same host organisation, these documents may not be required.
  5. For current M visa holders, provide a certification letter from the host organisation or individual inviting you to China, detailing your travel arrangements. Individual hosts or partners should provide a signed certification letter along with proof of Beijing residency.

M visa holders can apply for extensions up to 180 days or renewals with a validity of less than one year and a stay duration of fewer than 180 days, with various entry numbers from zero to multiple. However, the total stay duration with the renewed visa cannot exceed one year from the latest entry into China.

Applicants may need to undergo a face-to-face interview. However, those aged above 60 or with disabilities may have representatives submit applications on their behalf, with proper documentation. Foreign language documents (excluding English) should be translated into Chinese. Applicants who haven't nullified their Chinese household registration should do so before applying.

Foreigners residing in China should apply for visa extensions at least seven days before their current visa expires. During the processing period, applicants can legally stay and travel within China with the application receipt notice.

The exit-entry administration authority may verify the application's purpose through various means. Decisions regarding visa extensions or reissuance are final, and the interpretation of these instructions rests with the Exit-Entry Administration Department of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau.

  2. Inaccurate Information: Providing incorrect or inconsistent information in the visa application form can raise concerns and result in rejection.
  3. Insufficient Financial Proof: Inadequate evidence of financial stability or inability to cover expenses during the stay in China may lead to visa rejection. Recommended bank balance for China business visa application is INR 2,00,000 per applicant.
  4. Lack of Clear Purpose: Unclear or vague business purposes for the visit, or suspicions regarding the genuineness of the stated reasons, can result in rejection.
  5. Previous Violations: Past violations of visa regulations or overstays in China can negatively impact future visa applications.
  6. Overstay or Violation of Previous Visas: If the applicant has a history of overstaying or violating previous visa terms, it can significantly reduce the chances of approval for a new visa.
