When can you ask for extension?
Greece tourist visa extension, just like any other Schengen visa extension is only granted in exceptional circumstances which our beyond ones control. You will have to prove that due to force majeure or serious personal issues or humanitarian reasons it has become impossible for you to leave Greece.
- Example of ‘force majeure’: Natural disasters (tsunami, volcanic eruption, earthquake, etc.), extreme weather conditions, major political events (riots, war, etc.).
- Example of humanitarian reasons: You, or a family member accompanying you, have a serious health problem, death, or in rare circumstances a marriage that had not been planned.
In no case you will allowed to stay for over 90 days in the Schengen Region. This implies, that your visa can be extended only if you stayed for less than 90 days in the Schegen Region in the last 180 days and your current visa is still valid.

Here is the list of the documents you would need fot your Greece Tourist Visa extension. Please note that this is not a comprehensive list and the relevant authorities may ask for more documents if needed-
- A filled and signed visa extension form
- Valid Passport
- A written request letter
- Passport photographs
- Supporting documents such as certificate from a hospital, medical or death certificate of a close family member
- Proof of financial adequacy - bank statements, extended travel medical insurance, etc.
- Proof of accommodation
- Reservation of a new return plane ticket
Is there an additional visa extension fee?
Yes, you may have to pay €30 as Greece tourist visa extension fee. If your request was due to force majeure, you may be exempt from paying this fee.
