For Indian citizens intending to visit Lithuania, several types of Lithuania visas are available depending on the purpose and duration of the visit. These include:


  1. Short-stay Schengen Visa (Type C): This visa allows for stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period in the Schengen Area, which includes Lithuania. It is suitable for tourism, short business trips, family visits, medical treatment, or participation in short-term events or conferences.
  2. National Visa (Type D): This visa is for longer stays in Lithuania exceeding 90 days, such as for employment, study, family reunification, or other long-term purposes.
  3. Airport Transit Visa (Type A): This visa is required for Indian citizens who need to transit through a Schengen airport en route to a non-Schengen destination and who will not leave the international transit area of the airport.
  4. Limited Territorial Validity Visa (LTV): This visa allows entry only into the Schengen country that issued it or into the specific Schengen countries listed on the visa sticker. It is typically granted for exceptional circumstances or urgent humanitarian reasons.

Lithuania Visa Requirements for Indian Citizens

Mandatory Documents

Visa Application Form

A completed and signed Schengen Visa Application Form

Passport

  • Issued within the last 10 years
  • Should have a minimum of 2 blank pages
  • Must be valid for at least 3 months after the scheduled return

2 Colour Photographs

  • Not older than 6 months

  • Face of the applicant must cover at least 80% of the frame

Travel Health Insurance

  • Minimum coverage = € 30,000 per person 
  • Must cover all travel risks like accidents, illnesses, medical emergencies, etc.
  • Should remain valid during the entire stay in the Schengen Area and not just Lithuania 
  • Policy must state the validity period clearly

Cover Letter

  • Explain clearly the purpose of your trip

  • For minors travelling alone - notarized written consent of both parents or legal guardians  
  • For minors travelling with one parent -  notarized written consent of the other parent or guardian, except in cases of a parent having sole custody or guardianship of the minor, in which case a proof of sole custody or guardianship must be provided
  • Identification document, with signature and photograph of parents/guardians in both cases

  • Visa or entry permit for the destination country
  • Documents concerning the onward journey to the final destination after the intended airport transit.

  • MIGRIS invitation letter from the inviting company

  • Both letters must confirm (a) the applicant's identity; (b) the purpose of the journey (meetings, conferences, etc.); (c) the period and place of intended stay

How to Apply for a Lithuania Visa From India

Indians need to submit their visa application to VFS Global - the official visa partner of the Lithuanian government. 


When travelling to more than one Schengen country, remember to submit your application with the country where you will be staying the longest. In case of equally long stays, apply with the Schengen country where you arrive first. If you plan on travelling to a country outside of the Schengen Region (for example the United Kingdom or the United States), apply for the other visa first, before applying for the Schengen visa.


Also, keep in mind to apply for your Lithuania visa at least 3 weeks in advance of the intended travel date. A Schengen visa application can be submitted as early as 6 months from the date of travel. 


Now that you know when and where to apply for a Lithuanian visa, here is a step-by-step guide to applying for your Lithuanian visa through VFS Global-


Step 1: Identify Your Visa Type

The first step is to determine the right visa for your trip. Travellers usually need a short-term, Schengen-type ‘C’ visa or ‘tourist visa’ to visit Lithuania. Ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria, and know your documentation requirements, the fee, etc. Also, make sure all your documents are in English. 


Step 2: Fill out Your Visa Application Form

Fill out the online visa application form. Collect all the documents required to support your visa application form. The next step would be to book an appointment at the visa application centre to submit these documents and complete the visa application form. 


Step 3: Book Your Appointment for Application Submission

Schedule your Lithuania visa appointment at the VFS Visa Application Centre to submit your application. You need to submit the application in person (this includes babies and children). If you’re travelling in a group, you need to book an individual appointment for each member of a group. You’ll receive an email confirming your appointment upon successfully scheduling your appointment.


Step 4: Pay Your Fees

It’s time to pay your visa application fee. A Lithuania visa costs around € 80 for people above 12 years of age and € 40 for children between 6 to 12 years of age. VFS charges around ₹ 1,788 per applicant for their services. You need to pay your fee online if you are submitting your application ag the Delhi Embassy. For other locations, you need to download the form and take the physical copy to the Visa Application Centre, where your payment will be made at the time of your appointment.


Step 5: Visit the Visa Application Centre

Submit your printed application form and documents at the VFS Visa Application Centre in person. Also, pay the fee (if not paid online). The VFS authorities will also collect your biometrics (fingerprints and a digital live photograph) during the appointment.


Step 6: Collect Your Documents Back 

Once the visa authorities have decided on your visa application, you can collect your documents back from them. You can either collect the documents in person or avail of their courier services at an additional price. 


You will need the Original ICR & Copy of Govt ID Proof for collecting your documents in person.


Your immediate family members (i.e. parents, children, siblings, or spouse) and Representatives of a company can also collect the documents on your behalf. 

Third parties need to carry the following documents-

  • Photocopy of Govt. ID card of all applicants
  • Original ICR
  • Authorization Letter from the applicant. In the case of a company representative, the letter needs to be on the letterhead of the company and the representative should also carry their official ID card.

In case an applicant loses their ICR, they need to come in person for the collection of their passport from the counter.

  • Lithuania visa fees for Indians are non-refundable and subject to change based on additional factors such as foreign exchange fluctuations, courier & SMS facilities, etc. 
  • Fees can be paid only in cash or by debit/credit card

Effective June 11, 2024, the Schengen visa fee is set to increase. For those above 12 years, the VIsa fee will be € 90. For children between 6-12 years, the Visa fee will rise to €45 from the current €40

Processing Time for Lithuania Visa for Indians

The Lithuanian Embassy takes around 15 working days from the date of receiving the documents to process visa applications. Your visa application can take up to 2 working days to reach the Lithuanian Embassy after submission at the VFS Application Centre. (At the Delhi Application centre, the process is online, so you save 2 days)


It is, hence, recommended to apply at least 3 weeks in advance of the intended travel date. A Schengen visa application can be submitted as early as 6 months from the date of travel.

How to Track Your Lithuania Visa Application Status

For instance, for tourism and short-business trips, Indians must apply for Schengen type ‘C’ visas which remain valid for 180 days. Lithuania also doesn’t offer visas on arrival to Indians.

  2. Lack of Funds: Before filing your Schengen visa application, make sure you maintain a minimum bank balance indicating your ability to cover your stay expenses. Provide enough evidence in the form of previous Income Tax Returns, bank statements, and salary slips to substantiate your claim.
  3. Weak Ties to India: No one likes overstaying guests and a lack of strong ties to India suggests that you may become exactly that - an overstaying guest. So, highlight strong connections in India like family, job, property, and other commitments that ensure your return home. 
  4. Previous Visa Violations: Applicants with a history of visa violations, overstays, or immigration issues in Lithuania or any other country may face heightened scrutiny, even visa rejection in many cases.
