Do Indians Need a Visa for Slovakia?

Yes, ordinary Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa to visit the Slovak Republic for tourism, sightseeing, short business trips, or other related purposes.  Since Slovakia is part of the Schengen Area, a single Schengen visa allows travellers to visit multiple Schengen countries, including Slovakia, within the visa's validity period, which is usually 180 days.

Types of Slovakia Visa for Indians

For Indian citizens intending to visit Slovakia, there are primarily 2 types of Slovakia visa for Indians depending on the purpose and duration of the visit. These include:


  1. Short-stay Schengen Visa (Type C): This visa allows for stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period in the Schengen Area, which includes Slovakia. It is suitable for tourism, short business trips, family visits, medical treatment, attending cultural, sports, or religious events, or participation in short-term events or conferences.
  2. Long-Term Visa: Also called the National Visa or Employment Visa, this visa is for employment in Slovakia. The fee, processing time of long-term Slovak visas will differ significantly from short-term visas.

Slovakia Visa Requirements for Indian Nationals

Below is the list of all documents required for applying for a Slovakia visa for Indians -

Visa Application Form

Completed and signed by the applicant.

Passport

  • Photocopy of the first & last page of current valid passport
  • Issued within the last 10 years.
  • Should be valid for at least 3 months after the intended return.
  • Must have at least 2 blank pages (back-to-back)

Official Invitation Form

For people visiting the Schengen Region for the first time - submit the Official Invitation Form verified by the Slovak foreign police department in original.

2 Colour Photographs

  • Should not be older than 6 months.
  • White background. 
  • Face should occupy 80% of the photo

Travel Health Insurance

  • Minimum coverage of € 30,000 against all risks like illness, accident, evacuation/repatriation in case of death, etc.
  • Must remain valid during the entire stay (including date of arrival and departure) in Schengen territory.

Cover Letter

  • Explain the purpose of the trip to Slovakia.
  • Present a detailed travel itinerary.

Proof of Accommodation

  • Hotel reservation, or
  • Any other accommodation in the applicant’s name like rental of a holiday home or campus residence reservation, or If staying with a relative/friend proof of sponsorship or private accommodation from the host.
  • If travelling to other Schengen countries, proof of accommodation in each one of them.

Flight Reservation

  • Roundtrip flight reservation.
  • If travelling to other Schengen countries, proof of travel arrangements there.

Proof of Sufficient Funds

  • Original Bank Statement (3 months)- stamped and signed by the bank.
  • ITR-V for the last 2 years.

  • If a minor is travelling with only one parent - notarized consent of the other parent, except in cases of the parent having sole custody or guardianship

Invitation Letter from Slovak organisation or business partner

  • Should be notarized
  • State the purpose, duration and itinerary in the entire Schengen Region

Official Dispatch Letter

  • Proof of current occupation
  • Original letter from the employer stating a reason for visiting Slovakia

Both documents must confirm the applicant’s identity, the purpose of visiting Slovakia (meeting, conference, training, etc.), and the period and place of intended stay

  • Recent Photo: Your visa photo should not be older than 6 months
  • Quality: The photo should be in colour, high-resolution, and well-lit, with no shadows, red-eye, or reflections.
  • Size: 35mm x 40mm 

 Photo Specifications for Slovakia visa for Indians

  • Head Position: Face should cover 80% of the photo with the head centred and fully visible in the photo.
  • Eyeglasses: There should not be any glare obstructing your eyes. No tinted glasses and no heavy frames.
  • Headwear: Religious headgear is allowed, but your entire face (from chin to forehead, including cheeks and ears) must be completely visible.
  • Child’s Photo: Should show the child alone, without toys, and the mouth should be closed with a neutral expression.

How to Apply for a Slovakia Visa From India

To apply for a Schengen visa or short-term visa for Slovakia follow the steps below:


Step 1: Find out your visa type

The type of Slovakia visa you need to apply for depends on your purpose of visit. For instance, individuals wanting to visit Slovakia for tourism need to apply for a Slovakia tourist visa. Step 4: Visit Your Nearest BLS Visa Application Centre for Slovakia

Visit the visa application centre. There are visa application centres in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.


Visa applications should be made in person. If the applicant is a minor, they should apply along with their parents or legal guardians.


In some cases, you may be invited for a personal interview as well.


Step 5: Collect Your Visa

Once a decision has been reached on your visa application, you can retrieve your documents and passport from the BLS Visa Application Centre. Alternatively, if you chose a courier service during your application submission, your documents will be returned to you by the selected courier. It can take approximately 15 working days to process your short-term visa and 30 working days to process your long-term visa application for Slovakia.

The national visa is granted for a stay longer than three months, a maximum of one year.

  • The fees are also subject to change without any notice based on foreign exchange fluctuations.

In exceptional circumstances, a short-stay visa can be prolonged to 90 days within any 180-day timeframe.
